The Helping Hands Youth Ministry will again be providing school supplies for Plainview and area youth attending Plainview Public and Plainview Zion.
This year’s event will be held from July 29-31 and August 5-7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and August 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Plainview United Methodist Church.
The Helping Hands Youth Ministry’s vision is to provide needed supplies to help bridge the gap of those furthest from opportunity for the betterment of their education and lives. The Free School Supplies for Preschool-grade 12 is for Plainview Public School and Zion Lutheran School students only.
Besides the free school supply distribution, the organization has provided winter coats, winter boots, snow pants, mittens/gloves, hats, clothing, hygiene products, and PE shoes by request from teachers or parents. The ministry has added food products to the Friday Backpack program, and gift certificates to local retailers.
Helping Hands Youth Ministry is a non-profit organization and began in the 2019-2020 school year through the Great Plains United Methodist Church Ministry Funds supplying many needed items during COVID. These funds come from anonymous gifts to the Foundation’s “Gifts From The Heart” Endowment Fund. There have been donations of school supplies from individuals in the community and monetary donations to help with purchasing more supplies.
Any special requests from teachers and families in Plainview Public Schools and Zion Lutheran Schools are asked to contact Vicky Bartak, or make requests known during the distribution days.
