The Crofton Warriors fell to Wynot in two sets and defeated Bloomfield in three at the Wynot Triangular on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The Warriors struggled to get going, dropping the first set 14-25. The next set was closer but still resulted in a Warrior loss at 20-25. “Our serve receive wasn’t perfect which had our setters setting from deep court, which affected our attacking,” Eilers stated.

Leading the Warriors, senior Jaisie Janssen and senior Addyson Ostermeyer both had four kills in the match against Wynot. Other notable performances included four digs by both Janssen and sophomore Emma Kuctha, as well as one ace serve by Ostermeyer.

Kuchta reflected that Wynot had some strong servers and that the Warriors’ serve receive struggled.

After the loss to Wynot, Crofton bounced back in their first set against Bloomfield, winning 25-18. During the second set, the Warriors hitting percentage dipped, ending in a Bees win 18-25. Crofton took control in the third set and clinched the match, winning 25-16.

There were a few things the Warriors did differently during the game against Bloomfield. “Our serving put them out of system a little bit and we capitalized on that - transitioning us into a strong offense,” Eilers said.

Janssen led the attack with 13 kills and Ostermeyer added 10 more. The defensive effort was led by Ostermeyer with 10 digs, and she was aided by junior Jazzmyn Wieseler, freshman Camry Michael, Kuchta, and Janssen all with five digs each. Kuchta also scored with two ace serves. “During the Bloomfield game we finally got into a groove and started connecting better,” Kuchta stated.

Eilers was proud of the girls overall but had a few pointers as well. “We need to react a little faster and be more aggressive,” she said.
