The Crofton Girls Cross Country Team had an outstanding meet at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on September 12.

The girls varsity placed first as a team with their top runners placing 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

The girls team made a team effort with Avery Arens leading them by placing 1st with a record breaking time of 17.57. Then, after Arens, Cecilia placed 3rd with a time of 21.25. Wortmann's sister Sophia followed shortly after with a time of 21.37.

Avery Arens broke the course record at the Norfolk Invitational, when asked how she broke it she said “I put in a lot of work inside and outside of practice with my brother Kaden who always pushes me to do my best. “The team supporting atmosphere also was a huge part, always cheering and encouraging everyone no matter what.”

The Norfolk meet was also the first competition for the Junior High Cross Country Team. They had a total of six runners with four girls and two boys. They’re best runner was Meredith Wortmann who got third with a time of 7.39.

The boys didn’t perform as well as they wanted and got 10th out of 13 teams. Sophomore Fred Dennis stated “Although we didn’t run as well as we wanted to, we’ll have one of our top runners back from injury and ready next week.”
