Crofton’s historic Argo Hotel will soon be reopening its doors for both meals and overnight stays under new ownership.
On September 15, the Argo was purchased by Todd Fischer and Chuck Mitzel, Jr. of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Fischer had been employed at bars in Aberdeen while Mitzel is co-owner of Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home in Aberdeen. Todd’s wife Esther Fischer will be manager and her son Darrian Enger will be the kitchen manager.
Under the new ownership, the Argo will be open six days a week for evening meals serving 4-9 p.m. The hotel is currently accommodating overnight guests throughout the week with children and pets welcome. Once the restaurant inspection is completed and the liquor license procured, the menu will feature a variety of entrees including steaks and chicken nuggets along with a special children’s menu.
An open house is being planned to coincide with Halloween on Friday, October 31, 3-7 pm for all ages with refreshments, treats for kids, tours and music featuring local musician Kim Sawatzke. Tours of the hotel will be provided on additional dates for individuals and groups for a free will donation. The hotel will be available for holiday gatherings as preparations permit.
The new owners are happy to be a part of the Crofton community and to help it grow, welcoming area residents and inviting visitors from out-of-town. Specific plans and dates can be found on Facebook.
