Crofton’s Marching Band went to a field competition in Pierce where they received a Division 1 rating and the Sweepstakes trophy with a score of 90.1 on Wednesday Oct. 1.
Sophomore Fred Dennis said, “Overall, I think the team performed better at Pierce than Columbus. Although there’s still some work to be done, I think we’re improving a lot.”
The band’s trips to all their competitions have been made easier by the addition of a new trailer purchased by the Booster Club.
This new trailer is significantly bigger than the ones used in previous years, which makes it much easier to store all of their equipment. They also received a uniform rack that was donated from Main Street Treasures and built by sophomore Corbin Bernt as a project on his own. Corbin built this rack off of a blueprint he created.
He welded shelves and braces together, and also he painted it black. He made adjustments to it later stating “I found out that it needed a bit more support so I added some bracing to strengthen it more.”
Ashley Leader, the director of the band stated, “The upgrade with the trailer allows us to fit all of our equipment and gives us more opportunities with our show, and we are grateful for all of the support to make these additions! It opens a whole new door to what we are able to do.”
