Plainview’s One Act cast and crew traveled to Wausa on Monday, November 18th, to perform in the Swedish One Act Festival. It was the first performance of the season, and the Pirates received positive reviews from the judges. “I was pleased with the first performance,” director Michelle Mosel stated. “The kids were spot on with their cues and lines. My only complaint is that we rushed, but that is typical for a first performance. Team scores were not kept for the event, however awards were given out for best acting performances. The Plainview Pirates saw their record move to 10-12 as the season winds down after their past week of play, which began on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and ended on Saturday, Oct. 12. In their most recent day of contests, the Pirates traveled to Bancroft-Rosalie high school for a four-team tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12. In the four-team tournament, each contest was shortened to a best-of-three matchup, which made it important for teams to get in their groove early on in each matchup. Unfortunately, in what was their third contest of the day against the Stanton Mustangs, the Pirates struggled to get things going, and quickly fell behind. Bruce Curtiss, who has been lead instructor for local hunter safety classes in recent years, recently announced that ongoing workload plus staffing shortages have made it impractical for him to put on a local Hunter Safety class this year. Young hunters are advised to check the Nebraska Game Commission website for opportunities for both on-line and in person classes. Looking to the future, additional volunteer instructors are needed, and could use Plainview both for apprentice teaching, and to set up in person classes. Interested volunteers can contact Bruce Curtiss for information, or contact the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offices.
