Eastern Star award presented
Members of Mt. Vernon Chapter #84, Order of Eastern Star, traveled to Orchard to present 50 year pins to Hoyt and Arlene Sirek.
They joined Eastern Star at Orchard, July 16, 1970. Nebraska Grand Chapter issued the pins and certificates. They were presented by Joan Alexander, Worthy Matron and Gale Retzlaff, Worthy Patron.
Arlene Sirek served as Worthy Matron of Sunset Chapter #300, five times and held multiple offices at the local level. She served as a District Grand Supervisor and a Grand Representative to Iowa.
Hoyt Sirek held the office of Sentinel for a number of years.
Both are members of Mt. Vernon from the consolidation of Chapters in 2018.
Sand courts get renewing facelift
The Plainview Park Board recently finished, with assistance from the City of Plainview, the Plainview Telephone Company and West Hodson Concrete, a complete renovation and upgrade of the city's sand volleyball courts in the Band Shell Park. Brozeks compete "in tandem"
For Kirk and Katherine Brozek of Plainview, last Saturday's completion of the triathlon in Crofton's Dam Race was a first in more than one respect-the couple competed using a tandem kayak and tandem bicycle. Baileyz BBQ business purchased by Laurel restaurant owners
Longtime Plaiview residents, Dale and Cheryl Bailey, first started selling Baileyz BBQ sauce at Bailey's Drive Inn back in 1999. Phase IV DHM invoked

Highway 81 work scheduled
Weather permitting, the railroad crossing on US-81 located just north of the US-20 junction will be closed beginning at 8:00 a.m. on May 27 for approximately one week to allow for replacement, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Traffic will be detoured utilizing US-20, N-121, and N-59

Parks now open, Pool to be determined
The Plainview City offices closed Chilvers Park and Band Shell Park on April 2. On May 11, the parks re-opened, but at your own risk. The city is not going to sanitize the equipment. Plainview City Council members will discuss the swimming pool at the June council meeting on June 9.
