Gene and Velma Thomsen Hall of Fame (center, with plaque), and family.

The Pierce County Fair’s Hall of Fame Award is presented to a person or persons who have given their time and talents to the Pierce County Fair for a number of years. “The recipients of this award this year definitely meet these qualifications.

Their involvement with 4-H and fair events began at an early age with participating in various projects in Clothing, Style Review, Livestock, and Ag Miscellaneous projects. These experiences were passed on to their children and grandchildren, encouraging them and many other 4-Hers to participate beyond the county level.

As with most 4-H parents, if your kids are involved, so were they. They have served as 4-H Leaders of various clubs in Pierce County. Probably the most notable was the beginning of the Pierce County Shooting Sports Club. They were not only club leaders, they have given many years of service to the Pierce County Fair - serving on the Fair Board, 4-H Council for over 25 years and 4-H division superintendents over a time span of more than 30 years.

It is with pride and pleasure that the 2023 Hall of Fame Award be presented to Gene and Velma Thomsen with our congratulations and heartfelt thanks for their continued support of the Pierce County Fair.”
