Gage Walton #8 pulled down by a literal shoestring tackle against Elkhorn Valley.

The Plainview Pirate football team were able to finish their final regular season game of the year with a win over Elkhorn Valley last Thursday evening after a rain delay held up the game’s beginning. With the win, the Pirates of 2023 added their name to history books with their perfect regular season finish at 8-0.

The State playoff games will start on Thursday, Oct. 19 with Plainview’s first game at 7 p.m. against Hartington-New Castle’s Wildcats. The Pirates defeated the Wildcats in the regular season of play with a score of 42-6, and are ranked #4 in their side of the district bracket.

The top 4 teams all are sporting an 8-0 record, and none of the top four have played each other this season. Stanton, Crofton, Cross County and Plainview are the top four teams in their side of the bracket, and all are 8-0. Following the first game of the playoffs, the bracketing will be redone, and the second round game for Class D will be on Friday, Oct. 27. The Pirates put up six in the first quarter, and seven in the second to lead the game 13-0 at the halftime break.
