The Plainview Pirate One Act troupe took first-place and a District Championship at the C2-3 performance competition in Creighton this past Tuesday - locking in a State Invitational spot.

The State Play Performance competition will be held in Norfolk at the Johnny Carson Theatre on Thursday, Dec. 7 for the Pirate group. According to the Nebraska School Activities Association’s website, the team will perform at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

The Pirates had two special awards - with Jacson King taking “Outstanding Male Performer” and Paige Norris winning “Outstanding Female Performer” - both selected from the entire
field of competitors.

Plainview’s “Great Easter Egg Hunt” took a near-perfect rating from the three judge panel - a 60, 60 and 59 to gather the team 179 points, and tied with Hartington-Newcastle’s “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” in overall points.

The difference came as all three judges awarded the Plainview squad the first-place spot as well. Hartington’s overall score was the same with a 60, 60 and 59, but all three judges also placed them in second behind the Pirate group.

In third was Creighton with “Oz”; Homer was fourth with “Nora’s Lost”; Boyd County came in fifth with “Nellie”; Summerland’s Bobcats performed “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” for sixth; Burwell was seventh with ‘Teachers of the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” ; Pender was eighth with “Dirt” and “Good Cop, Bad Cop...” by Bloomfield’s Bees was eighth overall.

The state event will require tickets, which can be purchased online at www.nsaahome.org ahead of time - children under 5 are admitted free.
