With just one meeting by the Osmond and Plainview Co-Op committees, the Junior High cooperation has already spread into high school discussions for athletics at both schools.

As previously reported, Dr. Darron Arlt indicated that the co-op would be passed by both boards, and that the administration would determine the details, and those details have started to emerge after the group’s first meeting on July 7.

The committee determined that the name for the teams would be the Plainview-Osmond Pirates, and that it would be used by both sides in all news, newspaper articles, programs, and clothing for kids/patron purchases. Principal Kyle Schmidt said that the uniforms he had ordered had simply “Pirates” on them in preparation for this decision.

In addition to the Junior High co-op for volleyball, football and basketball – the committees indicated that they would both “want… to move forward co-oping all sports/activities.”

Those started at this meeting with high school girls wrestling, a new unified bowling situation, high school boys and girls bowling and high school football as soon as this coming 2025-26 season.

The Board voted to create a Unified Bowling team, allowing special needs kids a competition opportunity with two of the team’s regular high school bowlers. The regular season bowling teams would still be competing as well.

High school girls wrestling would simply add a few girls to the Plainview team, and the football discussion was regarded by both sides to need more discussion, including perhaps a special meeting for the public.

The combination would eventually lead to the facility needing to be changed back to 11-man regulation.

The Board members agreed it would be good to go one step at a time, slowly phasing things together if needed by season.

More discussion will follow in coming months.
