The Plainview Pirate 2005 State Championship football team will be honored and inducted into the Plainview High School Hall of Fame during the Pender game on August 29.

A special halftime ceremony will be held during the game to “officially” induct the teammates for their contributions to the legacy of Plainview Pirate athletics.

From the team’s induction plaque:

“It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. That cliché speaks to the seniors of the 2005 Pirate football team who won just 3 games their first two seasons only to finish with 19 wins their last two seasons.

It’s also fitting to describe the 2005 team, who dropped their first game of the season before Coach Joe Anderson led them to 11 wins in their final 12 games, including a 15-point win in the state title game at UNL’s Memorial Stadium.

Ten players of the 2005 team earned postseason honors making this one of the most decorated teams in the proud history of Plainview Pirate Football.”

The Pirates defeated Scribner-Snyder in November of 2005, 21-6 for the Class C-2 State Championship title.
