The Plainview Pirates earned a dominant road win over the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears on Friday, Oct. 3 to improve their regular-season record to 5-1.

Despite being on the road, the Pirates made themselves at home against the Bears early, as they wasted little time jumping out in front.

With just under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Pirates struck in the form of a five-yard touchdown run by Gage Walton to go up 7-0.

Just minutes later, Walton found the end zone again on a ten-yard run to put the Pirates up 14-0 with five minutes left in the quarter.

Walton and the Pirates weren’t done with their first-quarter scoring just yet, as they once again found the end zone on yet another run by Walton to go up 21-0 as the first quarter expired.

With a three touchdown lead, the Pirates refused to slow down, and in the second quarter, they were able to find the end zone three more times to heavily increase their lead.

While the Bears were able to find the end zone once, the Pirates sat comfortably on a 42-6 lead at halftime.

With a 36-point lead, the Pirates came out of halftime with a killer mentality and scored two more times in the third while they simultaneously held the Bears to just one more touchdown.

With a 56-12 lead going into the final quarter of play, the Pirates finally took their foot off of the gas and cruised to a 63-12 victory on the road.

Leading the way for the Pirates in their victory was Walton, who found the end zone five times on the ground in just ten carries.

Also contributing to the Pirates incredibly successful offensive outing were Kobe Maertins with 12 completions for 187 yards and one touchdown, Colt Kromarek with 113 yards and one touchdown rushing, Collin Montgomery with 26 yards and one touchdown on the ground, Adryck Stewart with one reception and one touchdown for 33 yards, and Wyatt Schroth with three catches for 49 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Pirates were led by Hunter Meyer with five tackles, Zach Frahm with four, Kromarek with four, and Hayven Stewart with four.

Looking ahead, the Pirates will continue their regular season with their final regular-season home game on Friday, Oct. 10 against the Stanton Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.

The Mustangs will enter Friday’s game on a two-game winning streak with wins over Lutheran High Northeast and Elkhorn Valley on their resume.
