The Plainview Pirate junior and senior high band traveled to Lincoln last weekend to perform a number of special selections during the Nebraska Music Educator’s Association’s annual gathering.
Music teachers, band directors, and choir directors from across Nebraska – of all ages and levels – gathered in Lincoln for the annual conference, which features a number of special performances of the “best of the best” each year.
Plainview submitted an entry to be considered, and were informed of their selection for the exclusive list this past June. Instructor Wynter Fulsaas put together six pieces for the near 45 minute long performance.

Each selection featured individual band members and sections from percussion, trumpets, low brass, saxophones and woodwinds.
Fulsaas said she was “beyond proud” of the Pirates, ranging from 7th to 12th grade, for their dedication, and made special mention of how involved the kids were, from two activities to 7-8 that they were juggling during practices, the age range making it hard to gather the band together, and just the challenge of being a smaller school with less kids out for band.
