The former Pinnacle Telemarketing, or PCSI building, at the corner of Locust and Main in downtown Plainview was demolished this week, after City officials declared the building unsafe in the middle of last year.
The Council agreed to take bids on the removal of the building, which had fallen into disrepair since PCIS closed in 2013, after providing jobs to Plainview residents for near 20 years.
City Administrator Jeremy Tarr said that the Council had budgeted around $25,000 for the building’s removal, and were able to complete the demolition and disposal of materials and internal equipment under budget. Hoffman Construction won the bid and demolished the structure.
Once the project is completed, Tarr said the City will file a lien against the property to recoup some of those costs, since the property was not owned by the City during the clean-up and demolition.
Technically, the building – now lot – are still owned by Pinnacle Telemarketing, and the owners were alerted to the need to repair and restore the building starting with council action in May of last year. According to a city resolution, the owners had 60 days to remedy the building or reply, or the city would proceed.
The lot does still have some local property taxes that would be owed against the lot at the County level, including the City of Plainview’s lien.
