The Plainview Pirate boys golf team kicked off its 2026 season with a quadrangular at the Plainview Country Club on Monday, April 6.
After a few weeks of practice, the Pirates finally had the opportunity to show off their stuff in a nine-hole quadrangular against Creighton, Hartington/Newcastle, and Osmond.
With Crieghton, Hartington/Newcastle, and Plainview all allowing their junior varsity to compete, the field featured a total of 31 golfers all hungry for a spot in the top ten.
In a tight team race, the Pirates finished the day in third place with a team score of 191, just three strokes ahead of the fourth-place Hartington/Newcastle squad.
Leading the way for the Pirate varsity team was Guy Wortman, who finished in a tie for tenth place with a 46.
Right up next to Wortman was none other than junior-varsity member Jake Zuhlke, who also finished wit a 46 to tie for tenth with Wortman, although his score could not count towards the varsity team score.
Shortly behind Zuhlke and Wortman were varsity team members Colt Kromarek and Zach Frahm, who carded ninehole scores of 47 and 48, respectively.
With their first official competition now a thing of the past, the Pirate boys golf team will dive into its regular season with a busy upcoming week.
