The Plainview Pirate track and field teams stayed home on Tuesday, March 31, to host 14 other schools for the 2026 Ray Doerr Memorial Invite in Plainview.
Despite the cold conditions, the Pirates battled hard to bring home individual medals and place well in team standings.
Earning the higher placement of the two teams were the Lady Pirates, who accumulated a total of 63 points to place third behind Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (LCC) and Norfolk Catholic.
Leading the way for the Lady Pirates in their third-place finish were multiple athletes.
Junior Avery Hardisty found success in both the 400 and 800-meter run as she finished third in the 400 and fourth in the 800, Pressley Alexander finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, Emma Sauser took home runner-up in the triple jump, and Meleah Buck claimed the silver medal in the shot put.
While the boys’ team couldn’t quite replicate the team success that the Lady Pirates had, they still saw an abundance of solid marks in both the track and field events.
Leading the way for the boys’ team, which finished in seventh place, were the relay squads.
The 4x100-meter relay of Lincoln Forbes, Jaxon Ward, Colt Hofman, and Braedon Kment captured second place, as did the 4x400-meter relay team of Bastion Curtiss, Collin Montgomery, Forbes, and Kohen Lingenfelter.
Finally, the 4x800-meter relay team of Montgomery, Curtiss, Wyatt Schroth, and Lingenfelter captured third place with a time of 9:33.35.
Another significant performance on the boys’ team came at the hands of Kment, who cleared 12 feet in the pole vault competition to claim the team’s only gold medal of the day.
