March is “Music in our Schools Month” and the Plainview elementary, junior high and high school musicians have been busy at a number of events – locally and statewide – to celebrate their achievements and practice.
8th Grade All-State: On Saturday, March 5th, Emma Sauser, daughter of Mike and Julie Sauser, participated in the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association 8th Grade All State Band. Sauser auditioned for the band in the fall semester along with 360 other 8th graders. She was selected as one of four alto saxophones to participate in the All State Band. She was also the only participant from a class D school. The band was under the direction of conductor and composer Tyler S. Grant and performed a World Premiere of the piece “Breakthrough” composed by Tyler S. Grant.
Wayne State College Middle School Festival On Wednesday, March 9th, the Plainview Junior High students spent the day at Wayne State College performing in large and small vocal and instrumental ensembles and performing solos. “All participants had successful performances,” said Instructor Katie Carlson. The junior high band and all of the instrumental solos and ensembles received superior ratings. The junior high choir also received a superior rating along with all but one of the small ensembles. The WSC Award Winners included (l to r): Ella White, Avery Hardisty, Addie Hodson, Callie Taylor, Emma Sauser, Tessa Weber, Natalie Gatz, Cody Hoffman, Bastion Curtiss, Braden Kment and Landon Hergert.
