The Plainview Pirate track teams began their spring season of activity with a triangular against Osmond and Wausa two weeks ago, hosting the Plainview Invite last Friday, and traveling to the Battle Creek Invite at the beginning of April.
Seventeen teams attended the Plainview Invitational, with Norfolk Catholic capturing both the top spots in the boys and girls competitions. The Pirate boys’ team ended up in fourth overall with 59 team points. Catholic had 108, Ponca had 103 and Wausa had 63 for third. Other schools included Creighton, Chambers, Osmond, St. Mary’s, Boyd County and Stuart.
The Lady Pirates won fifth-place with 56.5 team points in their field of competition. Catholic won first with 118.5 team points, Wausa was second with 73, St. Mary’s was third with 67 and Ponca was fourth with 64.
At the Battle Creek Invite, the Lady Pirates girls’ team was fourth with 54, and the Pirate boys’ team was fifth with 47 team points. Battle Creek won both competitions with 190 points on the girls’ side, and 171 on the boys’. Other teams were Norfolk Catholic, Stanton, Elkhorn Valley, O’Neill, Osmond, Lutheran High Northeast, Randolph, Madison, Elgin Public-Pope John and Winside.
The boys’ competition was led by Battle Creek with 171 points, and Norfolk Catholic was second with 97.75. Stanton and O’Neill led Plainview’s fifth-place finish with 47 team points.
The Pirate and Lady Pirate teams were scheduled to head to Neligh-Oakdale on Tuesday, April 12, and then had a break until April 20 to travel to O’Neill.
