Creighton-Plainview’s Junior Legion baseball team posted a few errors and hits against Wakefield’s Post 81 team in the first innings of their game on Monday at the Junior Legion State Tournament in Creighton, which started on July 16.
The early runs by Post 81, put the C-P team at a disadvantage they couldn’t quite overcome prior to the fifth-inning, resulting in a forfeit 11-2 to the Wakefield team on an 8-run rule by the end of the fifth, and their second loss of the tournament.
The C-P team had their first game on Saturday, July 16 against Dannebrog-Cairo-Boelus – falling to the team 7-3, and taking their first loss of the tournament.
Runs came in from Taylor Nilson, Cade Wickersham and Spencer Hille – mainly from a two “runs batted in” by Nilson. Nilson led the team with three hits at four at bats.
Moving to the C-P’s second game on Monday, July 18, the young men took on Wakefield’s Post 81 in a rematch from the Area Tournament.
The C-P team struggled to put runs on the scoreboard, with a number of errors and a few wild pitches that allowed some early Wakefield runs with aggressive steals coming from both teams.
Post 81 scored one, two, then had two innings of three runs, and another two in the fifth to stretch the lead to 11, and the C-P put up its two runs late in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to push the game to a sixth inning attempt, with Wakefield up by more than 8 in the fifth-inning.
This year’s team was Coached by Russ Diedrichsen, Brian Ickler, Kevin Weber and Wyatt Diedrichsen.
Teammates included Cody Wickersham, Brendan Weber, Devin Wagner, Gage Walton, Spencer Hille, Caden Ickler, Ty Diedrichsen, Rece Frahm, Taylor Nilson, Tristan Kallhoff, Ethan Kuhl, Ethan Rix, Owen Doerr and Camden Dummer, Kayson Maertins and Karter Lingenfelter.
