The Plainview Pirate junior varsity boys’ basketball team opened their season with two games on December 1 and 2, winning over Winside, and falling in a close game to Wausa.

The boys’ first game against Winside’s Wildcats was a seven point win, 24-17, after three quarters of play: scoring five in the first, 10 in the second and nine in the third played quarter.
Scoring for the Pirate team were Trevin Petersen and Ethan Rix, both putting up six points; Rece

Frahm with four; Corben Kment and Harrison Thor with three each, and Trindan Ziems had two.

The Pirates trailed by six after the first quarter, and gained those points back for a near tie after the second, 19-17, in the Pirate favor, but the Vikings scored 14 in the third quarter, enough to pass the Pirate total by a single point, giving the visiting team the win.

Ethan Rix scored 11 to lead the Pirate offense. Trevin Petersen and Corben Kment each had six points, Harrison Thor had three, and Rece Frahm and Trindan Ziems each marked two points.
