The Plainview Pirate wrestling team traveled to Stanton for the Mustang Invitational last Saturday, gathering enough team points for a second-place overall finish in the field of 19 teams.
The Pirates put together 199 team points for second-place, trailing just David City’s 216 team point total. Third was a distant Quad County Northeast with 116, fourth was Cedar Catholic at 108.5 and fifth was Madison with 106.5.
Other teams at the Invite were Pender, Norfolk Catholic, Stanton, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Lincoln Lutheran, Lyons Decatur Northeast, Wakefield, Osmond, St. Mary’s, Elgin Public/Pope John, Lutheran High Northeast, Scribner-Snyder, Tri County Northeast and Bancroft-Rosalie.
The Pirates will be traveling to Elgin for the EPPJ Invite this weekend, Dec. 17, and will head to Shelby-Rising City after the Christmas break on December 30.
Individual results for the Pirate team included:
113: Landon Hansen won with a bye; won 16-1 in tech fall over Carl of Cedar Catholic; pinned Sanderson of Pierce and lost 12-4 in major decision to Santiago of Norfolk Catholic. Hansen won second-place.
138: Jordan Mosel won with a bye; pinned Ferris of Pender; won 16-2 in major decision over Chase of Wakefield; and pinned Kleinschmit of Cedar Catholic. Mosel took first-place.
145: Kyler Mosel pinned Searight of Lutheran High Northeast; pinned Uhrich of Lincoln Lutheran; pinned Reed of Stanton and won 9-0 over Vinson of Osmond. Mosel took first-place.
152: John Leija pinned Osantowski of David City; pinned Centino of Wakefield; won 6-2 over Kment of Stanton and lost 5-4 to Sabata of David City. Leija won second-place.
160: Caden Ickler pinned Roper of Lincoln Lutheran; pinned Chytka of L-DNE; pinned Jensen of QCNE; lost by medical forfeit to Tanner Frahm. Ickler won second-place.
160: Tanner Frahm won with a bye; pinned Divis of David City; pinned Dusek of Norfolk Catholic and won by medical forfeit over Ickler of Plainview. Frahm won first-place.
170: Wyatt Doerr won by tech fall, 16-0, over Monteith of TCNE; pinned Hanson of Madison; lost by pin to Korth of Cedar Catholic; pinned Wurdinger of Stanton and lost by pin to Hernandez. Doerr won fourth-place.
182: Zach Cahill pinned Schleicher of Lincoln Lutheran; lost by pin to Bensen of Cedar Catholic; pinned Ramirez of Wakefield and lost by pin to Rosenkrans of St. Mary’s.
195: Grayson Petersen pinned Garcia of LDNE; lost by pin to Duncan of Pender; lost by pin to Hansen of Stanton and pinned Garcia of LDNE. Petersen won fifth-place.
220: Hayven Stewart pinned Jonson of LHNE; lost by pin to Casey of Quad County; pinned Cararrubias of Madison and lost 8-5 to Sanderson of Pender. Stewart won fourth-place.
285: Xander Albin won 2-1 over Johnson of Norfolk Catholic; pinned Knobbe of GACC; and won in sudden-victory 1 over Masek of Lincoln Lutheran.
