The Plainview Pirate wrestling team took top Championship honors at the West Holt invitational in Atkinson last Saturday, Jan. 14 – winning first-place over the 12 teams in attendance.
Plainview put together 150 team points to take first place. Valentine was second with 148 points; Ravenna was third with 138; Burke/Gregory S.D. was fourth with 134 and West Point-Beemer was in fifth with 128.5.
Other teams in attendance were Burwell, North Central, West Holt, Summerland, Todd County, S.D.; Ainsworth and Creighton.
Individual results from West Holt included:
132: Jordan Mosel won with a bye; pinned Thompson of Summerland; pinned Rasmussen of Ravenna; and lost by pin to Hansen of Burke/Gregory. Mosel won second-place.
138: Kyler Mosel pinned Jenkins of Summerland; pinned Hanvey of Creighton; pinned Sandoz of Valentine and pinned Evert of West Point-Beemer. Mosel won first-place.
145: John Leija pinned Ruiz of West Point-Beemer; pinned Fulton of Valentine; lost 9-5 to Larsen of Ravenna; won 12-6 over Condon of Creighton and won by medical forfeit over Prewitt of North Central.
152: Tanner Frahm won with a bye; pinned Hawkins of West Holt; pinned Uecker of West Holt and lost 6-5 to Davis of West Holt. Frahm won second-place.
160: Caden Ickler won with a bye; lost by pin to Lurz of Valentine; won with a bye; and lost by pin to Umphress of Summerland.
170: Wyatt Doerr won 5-2 over Schroeder of Summerland; lost by pin to Stephens of Burke/Gregory; won 6-2 over Kaup of West Point-Beemer; and lost by pin to King of Ravenna. Doerr won fourth-place.
182: Zach Cahill lost by pin to Perez of West Point-Beemer; won 10-3 over Bursaw of Ravenna; and lost 4-0 to Osborne of West Holt.
195: Grayson Petersen pinned Sayers of Creighton; won 13-7 over Phillips of Valentine and lost by pin to Wiebelhaus of North Central. Petersen won second-place.
220: Hayven Stewart won with a bye; pinned Odean of Ravenna; lost by pin to Wiedman of Todd County; pinned Muncie of West Point-Beemer; and won 4-2 over Koenig of West Point-Beemer. Stewart won third-0place.
285: Xander Albin pinned Garcia of West Point-Beemer; pinned Brave of Todd County; pinned Pavelka of Creighton; pinned Schade of Ravenna and lost by pin to Psota of Ravenna. Albin took second-place.
Triangular – Boone Central and Wayne
The Plainview Pirate wrestling team competed in a triangular against Boone Central and Wayne on January 3, beating both teams.
“This was our best team effort of the season,” said Coach Dean Boyer. “The guys wrestled with a lot of confidence, which let us get a couple of wins against good competition. The kids were tough and just outworked their opponents. The dual with Boone Central ended in a tie, but the 5th tie breaker was which team won more matches. We won seven and they won six to give us the win. Wrestlers of the Boone Central Dual were Tanner Frahm and Wyatt Doerr. Tanner beat their beat wrestler 14-7 and Wyatt simply out worked is opponent.”
Boyer said he chose “Wrestlers of the Wayne Dual” as Wyatt Doerr and Grayson Petersen. “Both guys have improved a lot from last season and are believing they can win any match,” said Boyer.
