The Plainview Pirate junior varsity basketball team took to the court on January 14 for a tournament in Plainview, and successfully defended their title, winning the tournament.

The Pirates won the first round over Osmond-Randolph, and in the championship game, the Pirates defeated Pierce’s Bluejays to take the tournament win.
On the boys’ side of the tournament Plainview, Osmond-Randolph, Pierce and West Holt brought teams for competition.

In the Pirates first game of the tournament they played Osmond/Randolph, winning 28-24.
The Pirates tied up the first quarter, 5-5, and fell behind in the second 12-5, to go into the halftime break trailing Osmond-Randolph 17-10. The third quarter the teams were again close to even, the Pirates winning the quarter, 6-5, and in the fourth, the Pirates turned up the heat, 12-2, to overcome the O-R lead and take the game 28-24.

Scoring for the Pirates were Karter Lingenfelter with 11, Harrison Thor with five, Jacson King with four, Trevin Petersen with three points, Lenyn Ickler and Corben Kment with two points each and Rece Frahm with one point.

In the Championship game against Pierce’s Bluejays the Pirates started out much stronger, 7-3 in the first quarter and 10-6 in the second – pushing the team to a 17-9 halftime lead. Pierce rebounded in the second with a gain of four points, and the teams were close to a tie in the fourth, leading 10-9 – but the Pirates were able to fend off the Bluejays, 32-27.

Scoring against the Bluejays for the Pirates were Jacson King with 13 points, Karter Lingenfelter marked seven, Harrison Thor added five, Trevin Petersen had three and Corben Kment and Rece Frahm both had two points.
