
Though the game didn’t turn out as hoped, the Plainview Lady Pirates did ride to Aurora in style!
The school’s new booster-paid charter bus arrived just in time for a “surprise” for the girls.
The charter bus was purchased used from Navigator’s Norfolk branch, where it will be serviced as well, according to Arlt, and was a 2005 with a rebuilt engine with around 400,000 miles. For more, sign up to the Plainview News.


The Plainview Pirates football squad saw their season come to an end in a tough loss to the Elkhorn Valley Falcons on Friday, Oct. 27 by a score of 36-8, ending the Pirates perfect season and their state run for the year.

Tricks and treats downtown...
The Plainview Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual downtown Trick or Treat event with a few hundred kids, parents, ghosts and goblins visiting businesses downtown to pick up their treats for the season. For this year’s event, the streets were closed, giving folks a better, safer opportunity to cross and travel around visiting the many tables, stores and businesses.







Workers hurried to beat the wet weather this weekend, constructing the new space for the expected Dollar General in just a few days. Unconfirmed sources on social media said that the store was currently hiring with an expectation to be open just after the Thanksgiving holiday!

This past week, 23 members of the Plainview FCCLA chapter traveled to Northeast Community College for the District 8 Leadership Conference.

The Lady Pirates played host for conference play in Plainview over the weekend, and took on Wakefield in Wakefield for the Conference tournament quarterfinals. Subdistrict play begins on Monday, Oct. 23.

50 years apart, same Pirate heart...
The Pirate football team of 2023 had some special guests for the football game featuring Summerland last Friday, Oct. 6 - teammates of the the 1973 Pirate football team were in attendance to cheer on the younger Pirates with their win.


The recently completed “Dedication Monument” heralding the history and future of Plainview’s volunteer fire and rescue and Plainview veterans will be dedicated with a special ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the site. For more details, sign up to the Plainview News today.





Fourth-graders at Plainview Public Schools visited the Plainview 1880 Historical Depot Museum The class is under the instruction of Brittany White, and toured the upstairs and main floor with guides, then switched mid-way through their time.


City announces road plan...

As of Oct. 2, the “Phase 1” of the reconstruction and renovation at Plainview Elementary has been deemed “complete” as students returned to their classrooms in the building. One for the history books!
The Plainview Pirates moved to 7-0 with a win over Summerland 62-34, and were congratulated by the 1973 Pirates while they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their 10-0 season.

New construction was started last week at the “Pride Field” location to replace the grandstands structure at the Legion fields. The Plainview BallBackers are in charge of the construction, and costs have been covered by private donations and the BallBackers.

The Plainview Pirate football team took down Neligh, adding to their record, now 5-0, with a last quarter win last Friday! The 5-0 Plainview Pirates will play again this Friday against Lutheran High Northeast in Norfolk with a 7 p.m. expected kickoff.
