The Plainview Public Library has been teeming with activities galore.  The Lego Club, grades 3-6, has been meeting twice a month, enjoying the Lego Boost kits purchased by the Youth Grants. (This project is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.) Robots have been created and coded using the Amazon Fire Tablets and IPads.  Some of the robots were coded to walk in all directions, carry loads on a tray, and speak. Preschools visited the library and were able to see live caterpillars.  They created “life cycle butterfly” plates using a variety of candy.   Stories read to the children were “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and “Nibbles’ Garden” by Charlotte Middleton. Day cares have been hatching dinosaur eggs, coloring Easter eggs using zig zags, dots, and lines, and using shapes to identify symmetry on butterfly wings. Stories read to them have included, “The Easter Bunny’s Assistant” by Jan Thomas, “My Shape Book” by Ann Smith, and “Good Night, Sweet Butterflies” by Dawn Bentley. New books have arrived and are ready for the children to read.  They include “Red Rubber Boot Day” by Mary Lyn Ray,  “If Bees Disappeared” by Lily Williams, “Construction Site, Road Crew” by Sherri Duskey Rinker, “How to Catch the Easter Bunny” by Adam Wallace, and “Mermaid Dance” by Matthew Van Fleet. Also new to the junior section are continuing series books of “Stick Cat”, “Owl Diaries,” and “Press Start.”  Almost all of the new Newbery Award nominees have been purchased and are ready for checking out.
