Kenny and Paige Albin of Plainview are parents to a new son, Myles Kenneth, who was born to them on March 18. He was born at 7:48 a.m., and he weighed 8 lbs., 15 oz., and he was welcomed home by big sisters, Hazel and Ellison. Grandparents Kreg and Renee’ Mitteis of Orchard and Terri Albin of Plainview. Great grandparents are Arvid and Renita Erb of Orchard, Bill Mitteis of Royal and Marge May of O’Neill.

The Nebraska School Activities Association recently released the Winter 2021-2022 NCPA Academic All-State Award listings for the local school. Since 2006, this NSAA Award has been presented to recognize students who meet criteria in the academically and in the activity for their school. NSAA Academic-All State awarded
The Plainview Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department hosted its annual Junior Fire Patrol on Tuesday nights during March for all Plainview fifth-graders. The group spent time in classes learning about types of fires, fire protection devices, dangers of smoke and a host of other instructional classes, and, on the final night, March 29, the group completed its “test” and named the Chief and Assistant Chief for the year. Gracelynn Lingenfelter (seated) was named the 2022 Junior Fire Patrol Chief this year, and the Assistant Chief was Katelynn Mosel. The two were the winners of the annual part of Fire Patrol where tickets are returned noting fire hazards in locations visited.

The Plainview Arts Council will be hosting a performance by “The String Beans” – a musical group with family-friendly songs for all ages – on Thursday, April 7 in the Plainview High School Auditorium. The performance will begin at 2 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public. The String Beans provide music of pop, country, rap and rock’n’roll for a wide variety of audiences with a wide variety of family-friendly songs about “all the things kids love” – animals, cartoons, food, science, sports and more. From the band’s information “Each show is hilarious, inclusive and spontaneous, and each catchy tune is designed to get every audience dancing and singing along.” The event will be sponsored by the Plainview Arts Council with support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

The school will be conducting a safety drill on March 30th at the end of the school day (and more specific instruction will also be provided to students on the day of the test). Elementary students will all need to be picked up by their parent/guardian or another designated adult at their evacuation site between the hours of 3:15 and 3:45. Highschool students will head west to Locust and drive up to City Office bldg. where spotters will then call for your kids and get them out to you as quickly as possible and then continue West on Locust St. or head North on King St. toward Hwy. 20. Eight wrestlers in Plainview Public Schools’ junior wrestling program will be attending the NEUSA State wrestling tournament this weekend in Grand Island. Those traveling to represent their team are, back row (l to r): Beau Johnson, Adryck Stewart, Tate Frahm, Cinch Fobes and Ashlynn Forbes; and front row (l to r): Guy Wortman, Colson Forbes and Zane Kromarek. The event will be held at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island at 700 E Stolley Park Road. Wrestlers from Pre-K to 8th grade will be competing against teams from at least 218 other communities and teams spread across the state.
